You will also have the opportunity to apply to be recognised as an International Mediation Institute (IMI) qualified mediator.

This module provides an introductory overview of mediation, covering the essential principles such as neutrality, impartiality, and confidentiality. It also details the mediation framework, outlining the structured steps involved in the process from initiation to resolution, equipping participants with the foundational knowledge needed to effectively facilitate disputes.
- Mediation Skills Development, Mediation Proceedings Process
This module provides an introductory overview of mediation, covering the essential principles such as neutrality, impartiality, and confidentiality. It also details the mediation framework, outlining the structured steps involved in the process from initiation to resolution, equipping participants with the foundational knowledge needed to effectively facilitate disputes.
- Mediation Skills & Documentation
This module covers the practical skills required for effective mediation, including communication, negotiation, and problem-solving techniques. Participants will learn how to apply these skills in mediation sessions to facilitate discussions and help parties reach amicable resolutions.
- Settlement Agreement & Institutional Rules
This module focuses on the creation and execution of settlement agreements, guiding participants through the legal and practical elements necessary to draft effective and enforceable agreements. It also covers the institutional rules that govern mediation proceedings, including the specific protocols and standards set by various mediation bodies.
- Role Plays
This module emphasises practical learning through role plays, allowing participants to simulate mediation sessions and apply their skills in a controlled, experiential setting. Participants will take on various roles, such as mediator and disputing parties, to practice negotiation and conflict resolution strategies. This hands-on approach helps reinforce theoretical knowledge and enhances participants’ ability to manage real-life disputes effectively.
- Assessment
This module focuses on assessing participants’ understanding and application of mediation principles and techniques. It includes evaluations through written tests, practical demonstrations, and reflective assignments. The assessments are designed to ensure that participants can effectively apply their mediation skills in various scenarios and are prepared to handle real-world conflicts professionally.

About Trainer
Dr. Christopher To is a chartered arbitrator, certified adjudicator and accredited mediator, chartered engineer, chartered information technology professional, barrister-at-law and a law professor (adjunct) who is on the panels of various leading global alternative dispute resolution bodies. He has arbitrated, adjudicated and mediated a variety of cases and is representing clients in cases within the dispute resolution field. Christopher is currently a barrister at law at Gilt Chambers and the Programme Director of the LLM in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution at the City University of Hong Kong and was the Secretary-General of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (1998 to 2008).
